Ernest Rutherford
Named for听Ernest, Lord Rutherford, father听of nuclear physics and UC鈥檚听most famous alumnus, the Ernest Rutherford building is听one of the only buildings in听Australasia that combines听multiple science disciplines in听one space. With 20,000 square听metres of floor space,听it houses teaching and听research laboratories for听physics, astronomy, chemistry,听geological sciences, geography听and biological sciences.
Completed in 2018, the building听was purposefully designed to encourage innovation and support flexible learning and teaching methods, with key features including:
- state-of-the-art laboratories
- UAV/drone room
- 3D medical imaging
- cloud chamber
- radioactivity lab
- superconduction magnet lab
- herbarium
- informal social and study spaces.
Cultural themes have been听interwoven into the building,听and the many communal spaces听promote interaction, with听hospitable entrances听able to accommodate events听and welcome in students, staff听and visitors.

Beatrice Tinsley
The Beatrice Tinsley building听was opened in October 2019.听It听connects to both the Ernest听Rutherford building and the听Julius von Haast building,听where the听School of Biological听Sciences Te Kura P奴taiao Koioro听is located.
Beatrice Tinsley听was a UC science graduate听and renowned astrophysicist听whose research made听substantial contributions to our听understanding of the evolution听of galaxies.
