Graduate and Postgraduate Education programmes

Here's what you need to know if you've enrolled or are busy enrolling in Primary Education or Secondary Education endorsements for the Graduate Diploma in Teaching and Learning, Postgraduate Diploma in Teaching, and Learning and Master of Teaching and Learning. HOW TO APPLY

This page is for students who are in the process of enrolling, or who are currently enrolled in the Primary Education or Secondary Education endorsements for the Graduate Diploma in Teaching and Learning, Postgraduate Diploma in Teaching and Learning and Master of Teaching and Learning. If you have not yet applied please visit our guide to applying page.

If you are already enrolled, either as a campus or distance student, you can log into听My Timetable听for timetables (including OSI), live information and room numbers.

We strongly advise you to apply as early as possible as places in this programme are limited and in high demand.

Distance students

  • Your programme begins on听Monday 27 January - Friday 7 February 2025, with a听compulsory On-site Intensive programme (OSI) in Christchurch.听This includes an introduction to UC and the Faculty of Education, an introduction to tertiary study, a compulsory workshop on the Treaty of Waitangi, a noho marae experience (a visit to a marae, including an overnight stay) and course work.听It also provides opportunities to meet your fellow students and the staff. For the OSI please ensure you are available for full days.听For these two weeks please DO NOT rely on your听for听confirmed times and venues. During your first day on campus, you will meet the Programme Coordinator who will provide and confirm a customised timetable for your cohort for the two-week OSI programme.
  • On your first day,听Monday 27 January,听you will arrive on the Ilam campus听at 8:30am outside听C block,听to register and prepare for the Mihi whakatau (a formal welcome ceremony).听Information about Mihi whakatau, including appropriate attire, can be found on our website.
  • Noho marae overnight stay is scheduled for Thursday 30 January, returning to campus Friday.听Appropriate attire is required for the p艒whiri ceremony at the marae, and you are also required to bring your own bedding for the overnight stay. Detailed instructions will be provided at the noho marae briefing.听
  • Please note Thursday 6 February is Waitangi day (public holiday). No teaching on this day.
  • Please note: Travel and accommodation costs associated with your OSIs are not included in your course fees. You need to set funds aside to cover these yourself.
  • Distance study is not currently available for students completing the Secondary Education endorsement, only the alternative entry pathway.

Christchurch on-campus students

  • Your programme begins on听Monday 27 January - Friday 7 February 2025, with a听compulsory听Orientation.听This includes an introduction to UC and the Faculty of Education, an introduction to tertiary study, a compulsory workshop on the Treaty of Waitangi, a noho marae experience (a visit to a marae, including an overnight stay) and course work.听You will also meet your fellow students and the staff. Please ensure you are available for full days. For these two weeks please DO NOT rely on your听for听confirmed times and venues. During your first day on campus, you will meet the Programme Coordinator who will provide and confirm a customised timetable for your cohort for the two-week Campus Intensive programme.
  • Part-time students must attend all their scheduled classes but can attend extra orientation activities offered at UC in their free time.
  • On your first day,听Monday 27 January,听meet听on Ilam campus听at 8:30am outside听C block,听to prepare for the Mihi whakatau (a formal welcome ceremony). A staff member will direct you from there.听Information about Mihi whakatau, including appropriate attire, can be found on听our website.
  • Noho for campus students will occur on Tuesday 28听January for primary students, and Monday 3 Feb, or Tuesday 4 Feb for secondary students (which night is overnight is TBC).
  • Please note Thursday 6 February is Waitangi day (public holiday). No teaching on this day.

International students

  • International students must attend a Faculty of Education International Orientation on Friday 24 January (likely in the morning), time and rooming to be confirmed by email.听This is held prior to your programme formally starting.听
  • In addition to the compulsory orientation, International students are also invited to attend a UC-wide international student welcome听and orientation activities. Information can also be found at听International Student Support.
